At Grana, we’re all about the finer things in life. And by that, we mean the simple and natural things.
Take your space for example. Whether it be your home, your creative space or your work space; your space is a place that you’re in everyday, and a lot of thought and curation goes into building the type of space that you want to spend your time in, and that you’re proud to call your own.
We want to know more about your space, so… we’re sending photographer and Grana Friend, Monsieur Jerome to invade it!
Meet Avril and Quy.
Avril and her husband Quy (the Ralph Lauren Homestyle director) recently opened their own antique business, FORM Vintage. They also just finished a residency at the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg (that also got a feature in Vogue!).
Welcome to their space.
I’m from Dublin, Ireland and Quy is from Vietnam, via Houston, Texas. We’re still not entirely certain what forces were at play for us to find our way into each others lives, but both of our backgrounds have made us dreamers. That’s definitely a big part of our relationship, and of FORM.
Tell us more about Form Vintage and how it works.
FORM Vintage was born from a desire to shift people’s perceptions around vintage and antiques. We view everything with a modernist eye; focusing less on age for the sake of age, and rather for it’s relevance today. We want to keep the brand moving and evolving so that it’s not easily defined. In addition to our vintage and antiques collection, we consult on everything from interiors, to events, to retail concepts.
What is your definition of quality when it comes to curating your space?
It’s a combination of form and function. We have less interest in beautiful spaces that are too precious to live in comfortably, than one which balances aesthetic with purpose. For us, a space should be inspiring, not restrictive.
What’s your favourite thing in, or about your space?
We like to challenge ourselves creatively, so we never sit with the same objects or aesthetic for too long. The one constant is the afternoon light that streams in via our living room window towards the end of the day. It casts everything in a dreamy glow – in a small New York apartment, light is everything!
Who or what do you like to share your space with?
We’re home birds, so we often have friends over here, to catch up and hang out. It’s really important that our space lends itself to entertaining.
What do you love to do here in your space?
We love cooking! Especially during the summer, when we can grill outside on the terrace.
How do you make a space “home”?
We’re actually moving to a new apartment next month, so we’ll soon find out! We’re both really looking forward to starting again, with a completely clean slate to play with. We have so many ideas, the difficult part is narrowing it all down! But at the end of the day, we don’t really need much to make a place feel like home – once we have each other we don’t need much else.
