At Grana we love our Denim, like Canadian tuxedo kind of love. This is mainly because we own a lifetime’s worth of uniforms in this trusty fabric. From our beloved skinny jeans, to chambray shirts to casual boyfriend cuts – denim is our everyday. But while pretty much everyone is onboard with denim, we know that many of you question denim on denim (on denim?), at least for anything other than the uber casual.
Yes it’s the ultimate ensemble for an afternoon at home but double denim also works for a host of situations you may not have thought of. That’s why today our team members Suhani and Sarah, are going to show just how versatile it is – by taking it to four places you thought you couldn’t get away with denim on denim. Double denim forever.
Chambray Boyfriend Shirt (Stone and Bleach Wash) and Mom Jeans (Stone Wash)
When You’re in Search of a Jet Lag Cure
This is the ultimate denim hat-trick: denim on denim on denim. Usually plane rides and long haul flights are associated with sweats and leggings but just because you want to be comfortable doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. Denim breathes and moves with you making it super comfortable to squeeze into those awkward sleeping positions on the plane. To maximise comfort, keep your silhouettes loose, contrast your denim washes and layer up. This means that even though you may be going from tropical weather to climate controlled cabin temperatures (aka freezing) you’ll never break a sweat or catch a cold.
Denim Boyfriend Shirt (Resin Rinse Wash) and High Rise Skinny Jeans (Black)
Work Work Work Work Work
Who said you had to go blue to go denim? Black denim creates a minimalist look that is sophisticated and elegant, making it perfect for those back-to-back client meetings that require a little running power walking between. Keep the colours dark but contrast the tone and silhouette of the top and bottom by pairing your black high rise skinnies with a loose indigo denim shirt. Elevate the double denim look further with luxe accessories like a pair of classic pumps and a structured handbag.
Grana silk racerback camisole (Cornflower Blue) and Denim High-Rise Flares (Resin Rinse Wash)
When You’re After Legs That Go for Days… All Night
You thought you couldn’t wear double denim for a night out? You thought wrong. Ok, so strictly speaking this isn’t exactly denim on denim you caught us! In our defence the new cornflower blue racerback can play to the colour scheme, and is perfect for those of you nervous about the double D. The loose flow of the camisole contrasts the fit of the high rise flares, keeping things minimalist but with an edge for a night out. Paired with a pair of killer heels, this look elongate your pins and flatters any derrière. Play around with colour by working accents into the outfit with a fancy clutch and a necklace.
Chambray Boyfriend Shirt (Stone and Bleach Wash) and Denim A-line skirt (Stone Wash)
When It’s a Date, but Not a Date, Because It’s a Lunch Date.
The denim skirt takes your typical lunch date up a notch and provides a great alternative to their more casual cousin, the denim shorts especially when the location or occasion demands a bit more class. (Or when you want to look like you put absolutely no effort into looking that good). When it comes to denim skirts, fit is everything. Smart, clean cuts will give your outfit a crisp chic look. Remember to play with tones to keep things interesting and try for light on top and darker on the bottom.
